“Enough Is Enough – Bitumen Old Byfield & Cobraball Road

PETITION TO BITUMEN OLD BYFIELD ROAD & COBRABALL ROAD
To Livingstone Shire Council and relevant State Government representatives,
We, the undersigned residents, road users and members of the wider Capricorn Coast community, call for Old Byfield Road and Cobraball Road to be prioritised for bitumen sealing and significant safety upgrades.
These roads are no longer simply minor rural access roads. They are regularly used by local residents, families, school buses, businesses and emergency services and, importantly, form a major diversion route when accidents or road closures occur on the Yeppoon–Rockhampton Road.
Despite their importance, sections remain unsealed and are frequently in poor condition, creating significant safety and accessibility concerns.
Residents and road users continue to experience corrugations, potholes, dust, loose surfaces, washouts and other hazards. Conditions can deteriorate quickly, making travel difficult and potentially delaying access for ambulances, fire services, police and school buses when they are needed most.
This is particularly concerning when traffic is diverted through the area following an accident or closure on the main Yeppoon–Rockhampton route. A road relied upon as an alternative route should be capable of safely handling the additional traffic placed upon it.
Our community continues to grow, traffic volumes continue to increase, and residents living along these roads pay rates and deserve safe, reliable infrastructure.
We are asking Council and all relevant levels of government to:
- Commit to a plan to progressively bitumen Old Byfield Road and Cobraball Road.
- Undertake an urgent assessment of the safety and condition of the current unsealed sections.
- Recognise these roads as an important alternative/diversion route between Yeppoon and Rockhampton.
- Seek available State and Federal funding to assist with upgrading the route.
- Provide the community with a clear timeframe and funding strategy for these works.
This is about more than convenience.
It is about road safety, emergency access, school transport and ensuring our infrastructure keeps pace with the growth of our region.
Temporary grading and patchwork maintenance are no longer enough.
Something needs to change. We are asking for a long-term solution — bitumen the road and make this route safe, reliable and fit for the community that depends on it.
Please sign this petition and help us call for action on Old Byfield Road and Cobraball Road.
Why is this important?
Why should people join this campaign?
Because this road affects more than just the people who live on it.
Old Byfield Road and Cobraball Road are used by local families, school buses, emergency services, businesses and the wider community — and they become an important diversion route when accidents or closures affect the Yeppoon–Rockhampton Road.
Yet sections remain unsealed, poorly maintained and hazardous.
This campaign is about safety, access and infrastructure that keeps up with our growing community. Emergency responders and school buses need reliable access, residents deserve a safe road, and a route relied upon during major road closures should be fit for purpose.
The more people who stand behind this campaign, the harder it is for the issue to be ignored.
Sign it. Share it. Let’s show that our community wants a permanent solution — not another temporary fix.
