Geraldton city Stop the New Instalment Fees on Council Rates

Stop the New Instalment Fees on Council Rates

We accept the 4.5% rates increase. What we don’t accept is Council introducing new administration fees and interest charges for residents who pay their rates by instalments.

Many families, pensioners and hardworking people choose instalments because it’s the most responsible way to manage their finances—not because they want special treatment. Penalising people for paying in a way that helps them cope with the cost of living is unfair.

These payments are largely processed automatically, making these additional charges difficult to justify. At a time when household budgets are already under pressure, Council should be helping residents, not adding another financial burden.

We call on Council to immediately withdraw the proposed administration fees and interest charges for ratepayers who pay by instalments.

Please sign this petition and help send a clear message: don’t punish people for paying their rates responsibly.

It’s clear this is something Geraldton residents are not happy about I will be presenting this to council at the end of July meeting in behalf of our community. The $8 fee represents $416 per year for someone who pays weekly. That is completely outrageous.
