We are calling on the NSW Government to STOP the removal of dedicated support case workers for foster carers.
Foster carers need more than a helpline. We need a dedicated worker who knows us, understands our children and can support and advocate for us when we need help.
Why is this important?
Why this matters
Helplines are not enough, especially during emergencies.
Carers can wait hours or days for support when urgent situations occur.
Dedicated workers understand our individual circumstances and can provide appropriate advice.
They advocate for carers when our concerns need to be heard.
They support us through difficult situations and help us understand our legal responsibilities.
They help maintain stability for carers and children.
Without adequate support, carers may leave the system or stop fostering.
We are also concerned that if children's case workers are expected to take on additional carer support, their already high workloads could become unmanageable. This could increase stress and burnout and potentially result in more workers leaving — creating even greater instability for children.
Our children deserve stability. Our carers deserve support.
Foster carers open their homes to vulnerable children and young people. We cannot continue to provide safe and stable care if the support around us is removed.
We are asking the NSW Government to:
✊ Keep dedicated case workers for foster carers.
✊ Provide timely support during emergencies.
✊ Listen to and advocate for foster carers.
✊ Protect children's case workers from unmanageable workloads.
