Make it Illegal for Grocers to Dump Good Food

Dumpster outside of an Australian Supermarket.
Around 310,000 tonnes of food is thrown out by supermarkets yearly, that amount of food could feed over 600,000 people for a year and with 1 in every 3 Australian household struggling to afford groceries the food waste needs to be prevented. Around 70% of this food waste is meant to be perfectly edible, which means it's able to be donated and could feed over 400,000 people in Australia. We need to prevent this, and ban supermarkets from wasting edible food.

Why is this important?

With 1 in 3 Households struggling to afford food, it is very likely that someone that is quite close to you in your life (like a family member, coworker, or close friend) is experiencing hunger. Signing this petition can make it so they are able to eat a normal amount of food and don't have to worry about factoring in money they don't have to pay for overly inflated groceries.
