Regarding: Petition for Proactive Gun Control via Electronic Tracking Regulations
Dear Minister,

We, the undersigned, submit this petition to call for an immediate and rigorous overhaul of our current firearm regulations. Recent events, including the tragic actions of legally licensed firearm owners such as the Bondi shooters, clearly demonstrate that our existing legislative framework is failing to ensure public safety. Relying on the assumption that legal owners will inherently comply with the law is no longer a sufficient strategy for national security.

What is urgently required is a proactive, technology-driven approach to gun control. We propose the implementation of a comprehensive electronic tracking system mandatorily fitted to all registered firearms. This system would function under the following parameters:

Geofenced Restrictions: Utilizing modern tracking technology, firearms would be restricted to authorized locations only, such as designated gun clubs, licensed shooting ranges, or legitimate areas of transport.
Automated Enforcement: The tracking system would link directly to law enforcement networks. If a weapon is detected outside its permitted zone, the system would immediately flag the violation to local police and trigger an automated fine for the owner.
Self-Funding Infrastructure: Similar to how motor vehicle registration fees fund traffic policing and road safety infrastructure, the operational costs of this tracking network should be entirely funded by gun owners through increased licensing fees.

The precedent for using technology to safeguard public life is well-established. Over past decades, mandatory seatbelts, breathalyzers, and advanced vehicular safety systems have dramatically and successfully reduced road fatalities. The technology required to monitor and secure firearms exists today.

We urge the government to act decisively, modernize our regulatory framework, and utilize available technology to prevent future tragedies.
