Data centres destroy while profits enrich tech giants. Say NO.
Australia needs to halt any progress on the approval and construction of data centres anywhere in Australia.
They will create a strain on resources, cause environmental damage and impact local communities negatively.
They will create a strain on resources, cause environmental damage and impact local communities negatively.
- Electricity demand will increase as data centres will capture a huge chunk of the electricity grid.
- Household and businesses power bills will increase.
- Increased fossil fuel reliance, especially as some states have made concessions away from renewables.
- Water scarcity will worsen, especially for drinking water, as data centres demand this precious resource for cooling.
- Noise pollution will increase (cooling fans, mechanical plant, generators, etc).
- Industrial encroachment will impact the landscape and increase pressure on land use.
- Australian communities will bear the burden while profits flow out to tech giants.
- Concerns about taxation structures and transparency. Tech companies already flout national laws and regulations.
Why is this important?
The building of data centres have negative impacts on our fragile environment, our precious water supplies and our communities. Their perceived benefits are negligible.
