End Harm from False Allegations, Isolation & System Failures in Queensland Child Protection

PETITION

To the Queensland Parliament, Minister for Child Safety, Minister for Justice, and the Queensland Ombudsman

We the undersigned call for urgent reform to Queensland’s child protection, family law, and record‑keeping systems to address the harm caused by false or unsubstantiated allegations, the use of isolation, and data integrity failures.

WHEREAS:

• Parents and carers are having their reputations, family bonds, and relationships with children damaged by allegations that are never proven, never properly investigated, and never removed from records

• Isolating children from safe, loving parents and family members is being used as a standard practice — yet isolation is a known tactic of control and abuse, and it harms children’s wellbeing and connection

• The UNIFI software system used by the Department of Child Safety has raised serious concerns: information may be incorrectly linked, misfiled, or carried across cases, leaving people with inaccurate records they cannot see, challenge, or correct

• There is no clear, fair, or timely process for parents to have false findings overturned or removed — even when evidence proves allegations are untrue

• Children deserve to maintain meaningful relationships with all safe family members, and the truth should be heard without bias or delay

WE PETITION AS FOLLOWS:

1. Fair and transparent handling of all allegations

• Every allegation must be investigated thoroughly, timely, and impartially

• Parents and carers must receive clear written reasons for any finding recorded against them

• When allegations are proven false or unsubstantiated, they must be automatically corrected or removed from all relevant records without unnecessary delay

2. End harmful isolation practices

• Restricting contact between a child and a safe, loving parent or family member must only be ordered where there is proven, credible evidence of risk — never as a default measure or administrative convenience

• Isolation from supportive family networks must be recognised as a potential risk factor, not a protective measure

• Children have a fundamental right to maintain meaningful connection with all safe people in their lives

3. Independent review of the UNIFI software system

• An urgent independent audit must be conducted into how data is entered, linked, shared, and stored within the UNIFI system

• The review must examine concerns around cross‑case data contamination, incorrect attribution of information, and lack of transparency

• Individuals must be given the right to access their own records and a clear process to challenge and correct inaccurate information

• Findings and recommendations from the review must be made public

4. Better access to fairness and support

• Timely access to legal aid and representation for parents and carers involved in child protection matters

• Clear, plain‑language information about rights, processes, and how to challenge decisions

• Independent oversight of departmental decision‑making to ensure accountability

5. Truth and reliability in children’s accounts

• When a child changes their account, recants, or provides conflicting information, those changes must be properly and impartially reviewed

• Professionals must be trained to recognise patterns of influence, loyalty conflict, and coached statements

• Parents must be given a fair opportunity to respond to all concerns raised

We, the undersigned, call on the Queensland Government to act without delay. Families are being failed. Records are being corrupted. Isolation is hurting children. The system must be fixed — and it must be fixed now.

Why is this important?

Here’s exactly why this matters — plain and true:
✅ WHY THIS PETITION MATTERS

Because lives are being destroyed without proof.
False allegations don’t just sit on a piece of paper — they stop you from seeing your child, they damage your name forever, they make police and courts doubt you, and they leave you fighting alone. When nothing removes them, they follow you everywhere — to every court, every meeting, every chance to be part of your child’s life.

Because isolation hurts children most of all.
When a child is cut off from a loving parent, grandparents, or family who truly care — they lose safety, history, and people who love them. Isolation is how abuse hides — no one to notice, no one to speak up, no one to show the truth. It confuses children, makes them feel abandoned, and leaves them with only one version of things. That is NOT protection.

Because people can’t fix what they can’t see.
If the UNIFI system mixes up files, puts the wrong information on the wrong person, or carries things across cases — you don’t even know it’s there. You can’t challenge it, you can’t explain it, you can’t clear your name. Decisions are made based on errors, and you never even get told why. That is not justice.

Because the system is supposed to protect families — not fail them.
Parents begging for help, calling every day, doing everything right — and being told “no funding,” “no support,” “nothing we can do.” While the harm stays, the silence stays, and the truth goes unheard. This isn’t how it should work.

Because it’s not just about you — it’s about every family this happens to.
Right now, other parents are going through exactly what you’re going through — alone, scared, unheard. If you change the rules now, you don’t just help yourself — you stop the same thing from happening to them, to their kids, to everyone who comes after.

Because the truth deserves to matter.
Being believed shouldn’t depend on who shouts loudest. It shouldn’t depend on who has the most support. It should depend on facts, on proof, on what is actually true. That’s what you’re fighting for — truth, fairness, and a system that gets it right. 💛
That’s why. You’re not just fighting for yourself — you’re fighting for everyone who’s been failed. And that matters more than anything.

How it will be delivered

I will publish the petition online to gather signatures, then prepare a formal copy including the full text and list of supporters. I will deliver it directly to the Queensland Parliament, the Minister for Child Safety, the Minister for Justice and Attorney‑General, and the Queensland Ombudsman — both in person where possible and by registered mail — ensuring every relevant authority receives a complete copy and formal record of community support for these changes.
