Public Petition to the City of Parramatta Council

Provide Dedicated Shuttle Bus Stops and Appropriate Loading Zone Hours for the Harris Park Free Community Shuttle Service
Petition
To the Lord Mayor and Councillors of the City of Parramatta Council
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, workers and visitors to Harris Park, respectfully request that the City of Parramatta Council take immediate action to improve accessibility to the Harris Park (Little India) Business Precinct by providing appropriate shuttle bus stopping locations and making minor traffic management changes that will enable the successful operation of the Harris Park Free Community Shuttle Service.
The Harris Park Free Community Shuttle Service has been introduced by Little India NSW Inc with grant assistance from the NSW Government to improve access between Parramatta Station and the Harris Park business precinct, reduce the impact of limited parking, assist seniors, families, people with disabilities and visitors, and support the continued growth of one of Australia's most significant multicultural business precincts.
While the shuttle service can legally utilise existing public bus stopping locations, the current network does not adequately serve the areas where passengers most need to board and alight. The absence of suitable stopping locations significantly reduces the effectiveness and convenience of the service.
Accordingly, we respectfully request that the City of Parramatta Council:
1) Currently only three normal bus stops are available (One at Malabar Group on Wigram Street and the other near Radhe, Station Street) and one near Patel Brothers on Harris Street in the entire root covering Wigram/Marion and Station Streets. These three stops are not adequate and it will cause lot of inconvenience to the visitors who wish to use the Free Shuttle Service.
2) Provide or designate suitable extra Free Shuttle Stopping locations along the route.
· Hassall Street/Wigram Street Car Park precinct - Need to convert NO STOPPING SPOT TO NO PARKING
· Near 94 Wigram Street – New stoppage by removing one exiting car park space
· Marion Street – in between the Marion Street roundabout and Harris Street – in the middle.
3) Amend the operating hours of all "No Loading" zones on Wigram Street.
· Currently there are three NO LOADING ZONES on Wigram Street. We request that the operating restrictions for all existing "NO LOADING ZONES” on Wigram Street be changed to 10:00 pm - allowing these spaces to be safely utilised as temporary stopping points for the Free Community Shuttle during evening trading hours.
This simple operational change would:
- Improve passenger access to restaurants and businesses.
- Assist elderly residents and visitors with limited mobility.
- Reduce unnecessary walking distances.
- Improve traffic flow by providing clearly identified stopping locations.
- Support Harris Park's growing night-time economy.
- Enhance the success and long-term sustainability of the Free Community Shuttle Service.
We therefore respectfully call upon the City of Parramatta Council to prioritise these improvements and work collaboratively with Little India NSW Inc and other stakeholders to implement these practical measures as soon as possible. The formal launch of the Free Shuttle is expected to happen on 9th August 2026 at 11 am.
By signing this petition, we support improved transport accessibility, a stronger local economy, and a more welcoming Harris Park for everyone. The planned route is given below:
Why is this important?
