Remove Cameras in Neighbourhoods

> We, the undersigned residents of Brisbane, draw the attention of Brisbane City Council to the recent installation of new public CCTV cameras in [Street name, Suburb].
>
> These cameras include 24-hour video and audio surveillance signage, with no prior community consultation, no published privacy impact assessment, and no demonstrated site-specific justification for this residential location.
>
> Our concerns are:
>
> 1. *Public Privacy:* The cameras collect personal information of residents and visitors in a residential street without consent, and appear to capture beyond the public roadway into private properties.
> 2. *Surveillance overreach:* The Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) requires collection to be minimal and for a lawful, documented purpose. No evidence of high crime or safety risk for this specific location has been provided.
> 3. *Audio recording:* Audio surveillance in public is highly intrusive and subject to strict legal limits under the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld).
> 4. *Lack of transparency:* No information has been provided on retention period, who can access footage, whether facial recognition / AI is used, or how residents can request access / deletion.
>
> We therefore request that Brisbane City Council:
>
> A) Immediately publish the justification, privacy impact assessment, field of view, and data handling policy for cameras at [Street / Suburb];
> B) Disable audio recording and re-angle any cameras capturing private dwellings;
> C) Remove cameras that cannot demonstrate a lawful, proportionate public safety purpose for this residential location, in accordance with Council's obligations under the Information Privacy Act 2009 and the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld).
