To: All Australians are going to be impacted by the AI industry and the changes it will bring to our way of Life.
Demand For A Moratorium On All AI Data Centres
We the undersigned are deeply concerned that the Australian people are being railroaded on incomplete technology by corporations wanting to recoup investments before their AI technology is mature.
There is growing evidence that AI Data Centres are unsustainably resource hungry. In a country which imports all its diesel and where water is a vulnerable resource, regularly experiencing water shortages and droughts, this industry places untenable demands.
There is also growing evidence that these AI Data Centres are unhealthy neighbours and are unsuitable to be sited in urban areas. Yet already one in operation is just 10 metres from houses!
We demand a moratorium on all new and as yet unbuilt AI Data Centres and an ICAC investigation into the approvals processes for those already in development and operation.

Why is this important?
Whilst people who might be more active on this front have been distracted by events overseas, the AI industry has crept up on us.
We are aware that there will be serious impact on employment, especially at entry level, and there is potential for enormous disruption across our society, for which we are singularly unprepared.
We rely on our governments to regulate such industries in our interests, but it’s becoming apparent that government has also been caught unprepared.
This is why a Federal government declared Moratorium on all development is now essential.
And we need people better informed and prepared to work harder in the public interests than those currently vetting its development.
