This is an important project that affects every visitor to Harris Park BUsiness precincts and the businesses at Harris Park.

This matters because the Geelong to Melbourne train line is more than just a transport service. It is how people get to work. It is how students get to school, TAFE and university. It is how people get to medical appointments. It is how parents get home to their children. It is how communities like Geelong, Lara, Wyndham Vale and Tarneit stay connected. When there is no clear backup plan, a delay can quickly become a major problem. A short trip can turn into hours of waiting. People can be left stranded at stations with little information and no clear way home. This has a real cost. People lose work time. Families lose time together. Students miss learning. Patients miss appointments. Businesses lose staff hours. Roads become busier as more people feel forced to drive. Public transport should give people confidence. It should help people choose trains over cars. But when the system does not have a strong backup plan, people lose trust. A growing region needs a transport system that can handle problems when they happen. Good contingency planning is not optional. It is part of running a safe, fair and reliable public transport network.

Whilst people who might be more active on this front have been distracted by events overseas, the AI industry has crept up on us.  We are aware that there will be serious impact on employment, especially at entry level, and there is potential for enormous disruption across our society, for which we are singularly unprepared. We rely on our governments to regulate such industries in our interests, but it’s becoming apparent that government has also been caught unprepared. This is why a Federal government declared Moratorium on all development is now essential. And we need people better informed and prepared to work harder in the public interests than those currently vetting its development. 

We, the undersigned, demand that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns publicly rule out the construction of a nuclear submarine base in Port Kembla. Secret government documents – only released after a freedom of information fight – confirm Port Kembla is the government's preferred east coast base site. Both federal and state government representatives have refused to rule it out. Delaying a formal decision is an attempt to evade accountability while locking in the plan. Government documents show that an accident at a submarine base in Port Kembla's outer harbour would require immediate evacuation within at least 600 metres and further evacuations up to 1.4 kilometres downwind – covering almost every residential street in the suburb, including local schools and health facilities. Our community has never been consulted about this risk. We also oppose any move to designate the base "Critical State Significant Infrastructure" – a classification that would strip Illawarra residents of their legal right to challenge the decision in court. The billions proposed for this base should instead be invested in what our community actually needs: health, housing, clean energy, education, and environmental repair. We stand with WAWAN, the South Coast Labour Council, ICAN Australia, and the forty organisations of the Port Kembla Declaration. Rule it out. Not here, not anywhere.

Just weeks ago, 124,000 Australians forced a Trump Tower in Surfers Paradise to collapse – and Tate responded by lining up the next deal. A resort and golf course of this scale would require council approval and Queensland Government scrutiny over coastal and environmental impacts, which means this fight is winnable if we act now.  The Trump brand stands for division, contempt for democratic norms, and authoritarian politics – none of which belong on the Gold Coast skyline or shoreline. When Tate called us "haters" for pushing back, he made clear he won't stop unless we make him.

If we don't do something now we will have an environmental disaster on our hands and an ongoing much greater need for funds for disaster recovery from Australian Federal and State coffers.

Everyone deserves good health, and also good dental health. Not just those with enough money, EVERYONE. I know people who have opted to have teeth extracted because the cost of care to keep our teeth is too high. The cost of leaving a person with infected teeth and gums can be painful at best, with ongoing infections, pain, abscesses, bone loss of the jaw, and sepsis, which left undetected can result in death. Is that an acceptable outcome, or can Medicare include dentistry to the scheme as a well overdue addition?

Across Australia, children are learning in classrooms that are getting hotter every year. At the same time, schools and childcare centres are facing rising electricity bills that put pressure on already stretched budgets. Solar panels and batteries offer a practical solution. Installing solar on schools and early learning centres would cut energy costs, freeing up funds for learning materials and student support. Batteries would allow schools to store energy and keep buildings powered during heatwaves, blackouts or other disruptions – helping protect students and staff when the grid is under pressure. Schools exist in almost every suburb, town and regional community. Solar installations on these buildings would create a nationwide network of local clean energy – strengthening communities and reducing pollution. There’s also a powerful learning opportunity. When solar panels and batteries are installed at schools, students can see renewable energy in action every day. It turns climate and energy education into something practical and real. Australia has the sunshine, the technology and the expertise to make this happen. With national leadership and coordinated investment, solar and batteries could be installed on thousands of schools and childcare centres across the country – delivering lower costs, cleaner energy and safer learning environments for millions of children. It’s time to Solar Our Learning. Every school and childcare centre deserves safe, resilient energy – and every community can benefit from local clean power. Solar and batteries on schools mean lower costs for education, safer classrooms during heatwaves, and a practical climate solution that helps the next generation learn and thrive. Australians across the country are facing a serious cost-of-living crisis. The price of groceries, housing, electricity, insurance, and everyday essentials continues to rise, placing increasing pressure on households and small businesses. At the same time, Australians are paying a significant fuel excise tax on every litre of fuel they purchase. Fuel is not a luxury in Australia—it is a necessity. Millions of Australians rely on their vehicles to travel to work, transport their families, run businesses, and move goods across the country. When fuel prices rise, the cost of nearly everything rises with it, including food, transport, and services. Reducing or temporarily suspending the fuel excise would provide immediate financial relief for families, workers, and small businesses during a time when many Australians are struggling to keep up with rising costs.

The war in the Middle East has exposed a hard truth: Australia is deeply dependent on imported fuel, and when global supply is disrupted, ordinary people pay the price. Right now: • Petrol prices are rising rapidly • Fuel shortages are being reported across multiple states   • The federal government has convened emergency meetings to respond   Experts, unions, and policymakers are already calling for action. One of the clearest solutions? Discounted or free public transport to reduce pressure on fuel supply and household costs. Queensland has already shown what’s possible with 50-cent fares. Victoria can act too. We’ve already spent billions building the network, including the Metro Tunnel and new stations across Melbourne. Now we need to make sure people can afford to use it.

Australians have been denied a say in whether we should participate in Donald Trumps illegal war on Iran. For decades, Australia has advocated in favour of the United Nations legal frameworks for international rule of law, human rights and the UN Charter which were all designed after World War 2 in order to prevent such atrocities ever occurring again. We must recommit to the world order and ensure Australia remains a strong independent voice for diplomacy and peace. We sign this petition with the hope that Prime Minister Albanese and all subsequent Australian Prime Ministers understand that we want Australia support the UN Charter and international law.
